About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct due diligence on mining assets and companies, integrating geological, technical, and commercial assessments.
- Build and maintain financial models (DCF, NAV, comparable transactions and companies) for mining projects and corporate transactions.
- Analyze mineral resource and reserve statements (JORC, NI 43-101, or equivalent) and assess their commercial implications.
- Evaluate mining project economics, including capex/opex profiles, production schedules, commodity price assumptions, and risk factors.
- Prepare investment memoranda, pitch books, valuation summaries, and board-level presentations.
- Monitor commodity markets, mining sector trends, M&A activity, and the competitive landscape.
- Support deal execution, including coordination with technical consultants, legal teams, and counterparties.
- Assess geopolitical, permitting, environmental, and ESG risks affecting mining investments.
- Structure and evaluate alternative and structured financing schemes for mining operations, including metal prepays, royalties, streaming agreements, offtake and marketing arrangements, and debt/equity hybrids, and assess their impact on project economics and counterparty risk.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, or Earth Sciences.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in mining, investment banking, corporate finance, equity research, or technical/financial advisory within the resources sector.
- Exposure to M&A transactions, project finance, or asset valuation in mining is highly desirable.
- Formal business education or training is a plus (MBA, finance/business degree, CFA progress, or equivalent practical commercial experience).
- Demonstrated understanding of mineral resource classification codes (JORC, NI 43-101, SAMREC, or similar).
- Working knowledge of structured financing instruments used in the mining sector, including prepays, royalties, streams, and offtake agreements.
- Strong financial modelling and valuation skills.
- Ability to translate technical geological data into commercial and financial insight.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; familiarity with mining technical software (e.g., resource and mine-planning tools) is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including report and presentation preparation.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams under deadline pressure.
- Attention to detail and sound commercial judgement.
