About the role

  • Act as the lead specialist for occupational safety in accordance with § 6 ASiG
  • Serve as the emissions protection, major-incident (Störrfall) officer and waste officer
  • Investigate workplace accidents and document findings
  • Inspect plant installations and technical work equipment prior to commissioning
  • Responsible for implementing the plant’s strategic and operational objectives for Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) in cooperation with the local management team, taking into account legal and internal company regulations
  • Serve as the point of contact for all occupational safety, health and environmental protection issues for managers, employees, employee representatives and external authorities
  • Lead and develop the EHS team (3 employees)
  • Conduct and evaluate EHS audits and develop tailored improvement measures
  • Promote awareness of the importance of occupational safety measures among managers and employees
  • Carry out site inspections, workplace and risk assessments
  • Create safety policies, operating instructions and provide/document safety-related records
  • Report and analyze safety-related incidents and initiate prevention and corrective actions (e.g., for occupational safety, environmental protection and security deficiencies)
  • Advise management on occupational safety and environmental protection aspects, for example in the context of structural, technical and organizational measures
  • Further develop the company safety concept and continuously implement the concept

Requirements

  • University degree in engineering or natural sciences (Diploma or Master’s), ideally with a focus on occupational safety and/or environmental sciences
  • Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in occupational safety, health and environmental protection and associated management systems
  • Professional experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Certification as a Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit (Safety Specialist) and as an internal auditor for ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and ISO 19011
  • Solid knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and standards, as well as BG (German statutory accident insurance) rules
  • Proof of expertise as waste officer, emissions protection and major-incident officer; knowledge of fire protection is an advantage
  • Desirable experience in machinery safety and the relevant legal requirements and standards
  • Experience managing external service providers and working with external authorities, the Berufsgenossenschaft and internal bodies such as the works council
  • Strong implementation capability combined with a high sense of responsibility and pragmatic approach
  • Strong organizational skills, a proactive working style and the drive to continuously improve processes
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ideally leadership experience and ability to collaborate across departmental boundaries
  • Good English skills, written and spoken (language level B1), and fluent German
