Support the Head of the RF Payload Architects, comms subsystems and digital equipment Section for engineering matters
Contribute to engineering work in RF communication subsystems (e.g. TT&C, PDT, ISL subsystems) in support to ESA Projects
Provide expertise to support Projects (and Studies) throughout all project phases
Perform and document relevant analyses; support implementation of industrial project activities
Perform in-house design and trade-offs to support project specific technology developments
Carry out computer simulations at system/subsystem level for assessment of end-to-end RF comms subsystems and TT&C/PDT subsystems performance
Provide hands-on RF comms subsystems modelling and testing support to projects with coordination with Laboratory Service
Identify, implement, validate, and operate relevant section tools, including software, hardware and data related tools
Participate in development, validation, deployment and maintenance of relevant internal software tools and databases
Operate tools to support Projects or ESA R&D activities
Provide technical inputs to definition of technology roadmaps and contribute to reviews and meetings
Monitor scientific and technological trends and maintain state-of-the-art expertise in RF comms subsystems
Contribute to definition of technical requirements and statements of work for tasks performed by industry
Review output from industry/academia and provide inputs to ESA Technical Officer; conduct software or hardware tests in Divisional laboratory when relevant
Specify, design, develop, verify and accept TT&C/PDT subsystems including associated EGSE and related equipment
Design and implement functions and techniques: modulation, signal synchronisation, digital signal processing, error control coding
Support industrial activities and procurement of TT&C/PDT subsystems and associated EGSE and equipment
Apportion requirements and generate specifications from subsystem down to equipment and antenna
Study and implement new architectures, technologies and techniques for TT&C/PDT subsystems; support harmonisation process
TT&C/PDT subsystems assembly, integration, testing (AIT), characterisation and validation activities
Develop simulation tools and paradigms for design, development and performance evaluation of TT&C and PDT subsystems
Implement laboratory activities associated to testing, characterisation and performance assessment of TT&C and PDT subsystems
Requirements
University Master’s degree in Telecommunications or Electronics Engineering
Several years of work experience in the field of satellite TT&C and PDT subsystems
Several years of experience in the architectural definition, analysis, design, development and testing of RF communication subsystems, such as TT&C, PDT, ISL, proximity-link
Very good knowledge of RF communication systems architectures and technologies
Very good knowledge of digital signal processing on-board techniques and technologies, including modulation, signal synchronisation, error control coding and RF/microwave technologies
A good background in communication system engineering applied to space is required
Experience and expertise with TT&C spaceflight hardware development and testing
Very good knowledge of end-to-end RF communication systems performance assessment and signal quality analysis
Very good knowledge of modern computer systems, simulation and modelling tools, programming languages
Knowledge of telecommunication standards is an asset
Knowledge on Authentication and Encryption schemes as applied to TT&C/PDT systems is an asset
