About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Accurately assign and sequence ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient surgery, observation, and ancillary encounters
- Work within Epic work queues
- Review operative reports and clinical documentation for compliant and accurate facility coding
- Code ambulatory surgery and observation encounters
- Abstract clinical and demographic data into hospital systems
- Ensure coding compliance with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, and AHIMA/AAPC standards
- Select APC assignments and validate claim readiness
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to obtain clarification when needed
- Support emergency department and outpatient diagnostics coding as volume dictates
- Maintain departmental productivity and quality standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4 years or more of outpatient medical coding experience
- Surgical medical coding experience
- One of the following credentials required: CCS, CPC, COC, RHIA, or RHIT
- Epic experience preferred
- Emergency Department coding experience preferred
- Outpatient diagnostics coding experience preferred
- Experience cross-covering multiple outpatient work queues preferred
- Broad procedural coding background across multiple specialties preferred
- Must live in one of the approved states: Virginia, Texas, Florida, or North Carolina
- Successful completion of a coding certificate program with AHIMA approval status preferred
