About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Code ambulatory surgery, observation, and ancillary encounters
Review operative reports and clinical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes
Abstract clinical and demographic data into hospital information systems
Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, AHIMA, and AAPC guidelines
Assign and validate APCs and support claim readiness
Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation as needed
Assist with emergency department and outpatient diagnostic coding based on department volume
Meet established productivity, quality, and accuracy standards
Work assigned encounters through Epic work queues using service-date-based workflow management

Requirements

What you’ll need

Must reside in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, or Texas
Completion of an AHIMA or AAPC approved coding program
Active coding certification, such as CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, or equivalent
4–5 years of recent hospital-based outpatient coding experience
Epic experience
Strong facility coding experience
Acute care hospital experience
Comprehensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and outpatient reimbursement methodologies
Emergency Department coding experience preferred
Outpatient diagnostics coding experience preferred
Experience supporting multiple outpatient work queues preferred
Broad procedural coding experience across multiple specialties preferred
Availability for a full-time Monday–Friday schedule, 40 hours per week
Ability to meet established productivity, quality, and accuracy standards
