About the role

  • Conceive original ideas for new products and lead product development and qualification from market definition through production and release
  • Responsible for product development of sockets, high-speed connectors, and cable assembly solutions
  • Work closely with customers and TE sales/SA/FAE/PM to capture Voice of Customer (VOC) and convert to design concepts and preliminary product specifications
  • Perform feasibility studies, mechanical and thermal simulations, and provide engineering proposals to customers
  • Create detailed 2D/3D designs, perform DFMEA and tolerance analysis, and execute technical documentation
  • Build prototype samples, perform validation, complete product qualification, and finalize product specifications
  • Provide technical support to Operations, Quality, and Production for launch and efficiency improvements; resolve product issues and manage ECN/PCN
  • Follow LEANPD project process and drive development through stage-gate reviews to meet milestones on time, quality, and budget
  • Collaborate with global manufacturing, procurement, and suppliers to meet TE technical, quality, and cost objectives
  • Execute design drawings, engineering/product change notices, and maintain design history files

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Generally requires 8 years of relevant mechanical engineering work experience with electrical components, electrical devices, mechanical structure design, manufacturing tooling development (stamping, molding, assembly, plating), or manufacturing process development
  • Knowledge in socket design, connector design, cable assembly design, material selection, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, product qualification
  • Expert in 3D CAD applications (Creo preferred); experience in 3D solid modeling, sheet metal, 2-D drawings, PDM link Data Manager; familiarity with Spaceclaim, Solidworks
  • Proficient in geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Proficient at limit and fit analysis, including statistical tolerance analysis
  • Proficient user of finite element analysis software (Ansys, Workbench), including elastic and plastic behavior of metals
  • Proficient in developing and writing design objectives for product specifications
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, molding, stamping, plating, assembly) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
  • Fluent in English (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to work in a global environment and accommodate varying time zones
  • Advanced problem solver; capable of data analytics and critical thinking with limited direction
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, MS Teams)
  • Willingness to travel 10% to 25%
  • Nice-to-have: Master’s degree; familiarity with switch/server equipment; working knowledge of raw materials and industry standards; quality tools (FMEA, 6 sigma, DOE, 8D); contact physics and plating systems; communication theory and signal integrity; thermal management in high-speed transmission; strong organizational and presentation skills
