About the role

  • Responsible for product development of socket, high-speed connector, and cable assembly solutions from market definition through production and release
  • Work closely with customers and TE sales/SA/FAE/PM to capture VOC and convert to TE design concepts and preliminary product specifications
  • Conceive concepts, perform feasibility studies, and run mechanical and thermal simulations
  • Create detailed designs including 2D/3D drawings; perform DFMEA and tolerance analysis
  • Build prototype samples, perform validation, complete product qualification, and finalize product specifications
  • Provide technical support to Operations (Quality and Production) for efficient and safe launch
  • Resolve product-related issues to closure and manage ECN/PCN
  • Maintain system-level understanding of customer applications and product designs to meet customer expectations
  • Follow LEANPD Project Process and drive development through stage-gate reviews to meet time, quality, and budget milestones
  • Provide technical support to customers, sales, PM, and plant teams; conduct tests, engineering analysis, troubleshooting, and verification
  • Work with global manufacturing resources, procurement, and suppliers to meet TE technical, quality, and cost objectives
  • Execute technical documentation: design drawings, engineering/product change notices, and design history files

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Generally requires 8 years of relevant mechanical engineering work experience
  • Experience with electrical components, electrical devices, mechanical structure design, manufacturing tooling development (stamping, molding, assembly, plating), or manufacturing process development
  • Knowledge in socket design, connector design, cable assembly design, material selection, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, product qualification
  • Expert in 3D CAD applications (Creo preferred); experience in 3D solid modeling, sheet metal, 2-D drawings, PDM link Data Manager
  • Proficient in geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Proficient at limit and fit analysis, including statistical tolerance analysis
  • Proficient user of finite element analysis software (Ansys, Workbench)
  • Proficient in developing and writing design objectives for product specifications
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, molding, stamping, plating, assembly) and DFM
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work in a global environment across time zones
  • Advanced problem solver with data analytics and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, MS Teams)
  • Willingness to travel 10% to 25%
  • Nice to have: Master’s degree in engineering or related field
  • Nice to have: Familiarity with switch and/or server equipment
  • Nice to have: Working knowledge of raw materials, industry standards, and product application
  • Nice to have: Proficient use of quality tools (FMEA, 6 sigma, DOE, 8D)
  • Nice to have: In-depth knowledge of contact physics, plating systems, copper alloys, high-temp plastics
  • Nice to have: Knowledge of communication theory, impedance matching, and signal integrity
  • Nice to have: Test methods for electrical connectors and thermal management experience
  • Nice to have: Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prepare and present customer-facing solutions
