Serve as the UI/UX design and development SME for a multi-disciplinary Agile development team modernizing a legacy federal case management platform.
Design UX for new application including flow, required UI elements, compliance standards such as 508 compliance, and process design.
Conduct user requirements gathering sessions to understand user requirements for application, fill out user persona data, understand pain points, etc.
Lead and participate in user research, usability testing, and stakeholder interviews to inform design decisions.
Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that reflect user needs and federal design standards.
Collaborate with business analysts, developers, product owners, and end users to ensure user-centered solutions are aligned with technical and functional requirements.
Ensure compliance with Section 508, USWDS, and agency-specific branding or accessibility standards.
Provide expert guidance on interaction design, information architecture, and design systems for consistent user experience across the CMS.
Design and document reusable UI components and front-end patterns for long-term maintainability and scalability.
Conduct regular design reviews to ensure quality and adherence to best practices.
Support deployment, testing, and enhancement phases on AWS, ensuring UI elements perform well across environments.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Graphic Design or a related field
10+ years of experience in UI/UX design for complex web applications.
Experience designing for and working within federal government IT environments.
Demonstrated expertise in user research, wireframing, prototyping, and using design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar.
Experience with Section 508 compliance and accessibility testing tools (e.g., Axe, WAVE).
Familiarity with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) and Design Systems methodologies.
Proven experience with Agile/Scrum development environments.
Experience with version control (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, and integration with backend services via APIs.
Strong understanding of designing within a cloud-native architecture, especially on AWS
US citizenship required
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 DoD security clearance. A current DoD Public Trust clearance is desirable
