Senior Mechanical Engineer – MEP
SubmerSenior Mechanical Engineer designing HVAC and mechanical systems for mission-critical facilities. Leading design and optimization of mechanical systems in high-performance infrastructure projects.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead MEP mechanical system design for HVAC, chilled water systems, air distribution, ventilation, and other mechanical building systems for mission-critical facilities.
- Develop technical specifications, load calculations, mechanical layouts, 3D models, and construction drawings in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Perform thermal load calculations, fluid flow analysis, and equipment sizing (chillers, pumps, CRAHs/CRACs, heat exchangers, piping networks, etc.).
- Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, NFPA, local building codes).
- Collaborate closely with electrical, structural, controls, and architectural teams to integrate mechanical systems into coordinated facility designs.
- Review and support submittals, shop drawings, procurement packages, and equipment selections.
- Oversee field investigations, site surveys, construction support, and commissioning for mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot and optimize mechanical systems during start-up, testing, and operational phases.
- Mentor junior mechanical engineers, conducting technical reviews and providing guidance on best practices.
- Support continuous improvement of internal design standards, QA/QC procedures, and documentation.
- Assess and evaluate emerging HVAC and mechanical technologies to improve efficiency, sustainability, and resiliency in facility designs.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 8+ years of MEP mechanical engineering experience, preferably in data centers, industrial facilities, commercial buildings, or other mission-critical environments.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC design, hydronic systems, air distribution, and mechanical utilities.
- Proficiency in MEP design tools and CAD platforms (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or similar) and engineering analysis software (e.g., Trace, HAP, CFD tools).
- Solid understanding of ASHRAE standards, mechanical codes, and MEP best practices.
- Experience with construction administration, field inspections, and commissioning.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience leading small teams or mentoring junior engineers.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Texas is a strong plus (or ability to obtain).
