About the role
- Perform geotechnical and tunnel engineering analyses and design for underground infrastructure projects including tunnels, shafts, caverns, and support of excavation systems.
- Develop designs for rock and soil tunnel support systems using analytical, empirical, and numerical modeling methods.
- Conduct geotechnical evaluations for deep foundations, earth retention systems, slopes, and underground structures.
- Prepare technical deliverables including geotechnical data reports, geotechnical interpretive reports, geotechnical baseline reports, and design reports.
- Develop and implement geotechnical subsurface investigation programs including drilling, sampling, and laboratory testing plans.
- Interpret geologic, geotechnical, and groundwater conditions and assess impacts on design and construction.
- Perform numerical modeling and soil-structure interaction analyses for underground structures.
- Support project teams with technical guidance on tunneling methods, construction approaches, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, civil, and construction engineers.
- Participate in proposal development and technical presentations for new project pursuits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline
- Minimum 13+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering with emphasis on tunneling and underground structures
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience in tunnel engineering, underground construction, deep and shallow foundations, and soil/rock mechanics
- Experience in preparing geotechnical reports and design documentation
- Proficiency with numerical modeling software such as PLAXIS, FLAC, or similar geotechnical analysis tools
- Experience interpreting subsurface investigation data and performing geotechnical analysis.
- Strong communication skills for coordination with clients, subconsultants, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated experience supporting Design‑Build delivery, including development of bridging documents, and coordination with design‑builders during procurement and execution.
