About the role

  • Support roadway design tasks on NJDOT transportation projects in CD, PE, and FD phases
  • Assist with development of roadway alignments, profiles, typical sections, corridors, cross sections, grading, and plan production
  • Utilize Bentley’s OpenRoads Designer to assist in developing roadway models and contract plan deliverables
  • Apply NJDOT, AASHTO, and FHWA roadway design standards under the direction of senior engineers and task leads
  • Prepare plan sheets, exhibits, quantities, and supporting technical documentation
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, including drainage, traffic, structural, ROW, utilities, and environmental, under supervision
  • Participate in internal design reviews and quality control processes
  • Support preparation of technical memoranda and NJDOT submission packages
  • Actively seek feedback, training, and mentorship to develop technical and professional skills

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field (or expected within six (6) months of hire)
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification in New Jersey, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
  • 0–3 years of experience in roadway or transportation engineering (internship or co-op experience acceptable)
  • Familiarity with Bentley’s OpenRoads Designer or a strong willingness to learn
  • Basic understanding of roadway design principles and geometric design concepts
  • Exposure to NJDOT, AASHTO, or FHWA design standards is a plus
  • Experience with MicroStation and the Microsoft Office Suite; AutoCAD/Civil 3D experience is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
