About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, develop, and implement applications at TRIUMF using functional requirements and design documents
  • Maintain and enhance applications used by the laboratory, including HR, VISITOR, DOSI, SCIENCE, and Conferences systems
  • Perform system maintenance and development
  • Support data transactions and data merges
  • Provide system support
  • Perform system upgrades and integrations
  • Work with senior programmers and use their guidance on requirements and design
  • Potentially continue for another 4-month term

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution in a vocational or professional training program leading to a degree, diploma or certificate
  • Canadian undergraduate student or Canadian Permanent Resident undergraduate student, or eligible foreign undergraduate student with valid Canadian study permit and Social Insurance Number, or eligible IEC participant
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Initiative and creativity
  • Ability to work with abstract concepts
  • Expertise in Java, Python, Node.js, JavaScript, Git/GitLab, Maven, Jira, GlassFish, IDEs, JSF, Spring, Microsoft Azure, DevOps and component libraries
  • Experience with MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MySQL using JDBC and SQL query tools
  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Basic knowledge of calling OpenAI API and using Power BI and Copilot for Power BI
  • Basic familiarity with a scientific research environment and physics terminology would assist
