About the role
- Install, configure, upgrade, and patch Oracle and PostgreSQL database software.
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize queries, indexes, and overall system efficiency.
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including backups, restores, and recovery procedures.
- Manage database security, including user access, roles, and permissions, in compliance with company policies and industry best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including connectivity, performance, and data integrity problems.
- Develop and implement database-level replication, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Collaborate with development teams to design and implement efficient database schemas and assist with query optimization.
- Document database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical database support.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest database technologies, trends, and best practices for Oracle and PostgreSQL.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator with a strong focus on Oracle and PostgreSQL databases.
- Proven expertise in Oracle database administration, including RAC, Data Guard, ASM, and performance tuning.
- Demonstrable experience with PostgreSQL administration, including replication (e.g., streaming replication), partitioning, and performance tuning.
- Solid understanding of SQL, PL/SQL, and database scripting (e.g., Bash, Python).
- Experience with database backup and recovery strategies and tools (e.g., RMAN for Oracle, pg_dump/pg_restore for Postgres).
- Familiarity with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
