About the role
- Ship docs with code using Git to ensure that docs and features land together.
- Run the doc site and its information architecture as one system, and customize the site where necessary.
- Maintain the GraphQL reference documentation to ensure users can access the knowledge graph.
- Document technical theory, tutorials, and references, and create courses for a technical audience.
- Create samples and exercises to show how to use the SPREAD product.
- Write for a tech audience with inclusive language and manage localizations.
- Triage and iterate with intention, manage the backlog, watch search queries and 404s, and publish refactors, redirects, and deprecations with clear notes.
- Improve the docs pipeline thoughtfully over time, choose automation that removes toil, and keep the focus on author experience and reader impact.
Requirements
- 4-8 years of shipping developer documentation with a portfolio that proves guides, tutorials, and API or SDK reference that developers actually use.
- Experience writing for a B2B SaaS product and highly technical audiences, with an instinct for enterprise needs and constraints.
- Editorial strength with sharp line editing, consistent terminology and voice, localization-ready writing, and flawless English (German as a great advantage).
- Docs-as-code in production with Git workflows, PR reviews, plain text authoring, and a Static Site Generator such as MkDocs Material, Docusaurus, Hugo, or similar.
- Comfortable with building and maintaining websites using Markdown, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, YAML, JSON, and Python.
- Ability to read code and write small Python/JavaScript utilities to unblock docs, validate snippets, or glue tools together.
- Discovery and ownership through interactions with engineers, reproducing steps, verifying paths end-to-end, and running a docs epic with clear communication.
- Nice to have: Experience operating or extending the docs pipeline with preview builds, link and style checks, and sensible quality gates.
- Structured authoring and taxonomy work that scales reuse and findability.
- Ability to run CI/CD with preview builds, link and spell or style linting, failing on red and fixinb quickly to green.
- Practical media skills such as tidy diagrams, clean screenshots, short task-centric screencasts, or podcast edits.
- Responsible use of AI for drafting and reviewing content, enabling search, and improving the documentation.
