About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide support for the z/OS operating system, base utilities and applications
  • Perform installation, configuration, technology upgrades and operation of the computing system
  • Provide specialized technical support in the z/OS environment (system software)
  • Size and validate (certify) hardware and software computing resources
  • Configure and operate centralized computing resources, guiding and supporting clients
  • Support development, maintenance and production activities for systems
  • Monitor and evaluate performance and resource consumption of hardware and software
  • Plan, install, deploy and maintain z/OS base software and System Z products
  • Monitor asset capacity plans and analyze environment performance and tuning

  • Monitor availability, performance degradations, bottlenecks and performance drops
  • Install and configure optional features and products with SMP/E on z/OS and z/OS UNIX System Services
  • Create and maintain procedures in the client's monitoring tools
  • Automate operational routines using JCL, REXX and native z/OS tools

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • University degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Processing Technology, or related fields; or a degree in any field with a postgraduate diploma in IT-related areas with a minimum workload of 360 hours
  • Desired experience: 10 years in activities related to those described and in accordance with the required knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of computer systems architecture
  • Knowledge of processor configuration and IBM cryptographic services
  • Knowledge of TSO, ISPF panel modifications and TSO procedures
  • Environment administration via HMC (Hardware Management Console)
  • Installation, configuration and administration of LPARs
  • Customization of z/OS system
  • Creation and customization of HFS and zFS structures for z/OS UNIX System Services
  • Creation of policies for applying PTFs to z/OS and other products
  • JES customization
  • Tools for configuration, monitoring, management and performance evaluation
  • Creation of policies and standards that ensure z/OS system availability
  • Creation of routines for storing system log records and SMF data
  • Definition of WLM policy
  • Definition of machine resources in HCD and generation of IODF configuration
  • Implementation, operation and support of IEBCOPY, DFSORT, ICKDSF, among others
  • Knowledge of APF authorizations, linklist, subsystems, HVCommon, HVShare, enabling zIIP processors and SWA for DB2
  • Automation of alerts and actions with IBM Tivoli System Automation
  • Capacity balancing with HMC or Zetaly Automated Capacity (ZAC)
  • Knowledge of z/OS, JCL, REXX, TSO, HMC and advanced TCP/IP
