About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform gas meter removals, exchanges, and new installations
  • Conduct meter set inspections and pressure checks
  • Perform appliance shut-off, re-light, and safety verification
  • Conduct integrity testing and leak checks at the meter set
  • Perform minor service-line and meter repairs and follow-up work
  • Complete compliance documentation and work order close-out
  • Interact with customers and provide safety education
  • Provide field support for CenterPoint Energy gas operations
  • Work directly in the field alongside experienced utility professionals
  • Support gas distribution operations and public safety efforts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and work in active field environments
  • Basic computer skills, including Outlook and Teams
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and safely
  • Willingness to travel to and work in Texas
  • Experience in the gas industry, plumbing, and basic hand tool usage
  • Operator Qualifications from any gas utility or market preferred
  • Active OQ status under ASME B31Q or equivalent preferred
  • Previous utility, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, construction, or field service experience preferred
