About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under physician and manager direction
  • Schedule appointments, maintain medical records, and perform billing and insurance coding
  • Take and record vital signs and medical histories
  • Prepare patients for examinations
  • Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and treatments as ordered
  • Obtain and process laboratory specimens, including venipuncture
  • Document patient encounters, treatments, medications, immunizations, and clinical information in the EHR
  • Respond to patient phone calls, lobby visits, faxes, referrals, and specialist appointments
  • Maintain clean, stocked, and organized exam rooms; clean and sterilize instruments
  • Follow infection control, PPE, bloodborne pathogen, hazardous materials, and safety procedures
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulations
  • Assist other Medical Assistants with patient flow and coverage
  • Maintain accurate patient records, forms, reports, and logs
  • Review documentation for accuracy and compliance
  • Support and mentor new team members
  • Participate in staff meetings and required training
  • Maintain effective relationships with patients, coworkers, providers, and staff
  • Use computers, EHR systems, phones, fax machines, and office equipment
  • Maintain reliable attendance and work scheduled shifts
  • Promote chronic care, collaborative care, and remote patient monitoring services
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED, medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting
  • Appropriate certificate indicating passing grade for a specific specialty if working in a specialty department
  • Minimum 2 years in a clerical or administrative role
  • Knowledge of healthcare and clinical terminology, regulations, and best practices
  • Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office
  • Current experience with electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary procedures, and injections
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently and in a team
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace applications
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Sensitivity to the needs of persons with MH/SA/DD concerns
  • Ability to interact empathetically with beneficiaries and their families
  • Must possess a current CPR certification
  • Must possess current health records with appropriate immunizations (hepatitis B and tuberculosis)
  • Preferred national certification for registered medical assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT) or certified assistant through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
