About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick procedures
Identify patients and correctly label specimen tubes at the bedside
Prioritize and complete STAT draws within required timeframes
Transport patient specimens to the laboratory promptly
Verify information, perform order entry, generate collection lists, and add or cancel tests
Organize assigned work and complete workload statistics
Assist coworkers and communicate with laboratory departments and hospital floors
Help train new employees and student interns under supervision
Follow organizational, department, laboratory, hospital, infection-control, and phlebotomy policies
Act as an outpatient-lab receptionist, greet patients, and answer phones when required
Clean equipment and work areas, maintain stock, and dispose of safety and waste containers properly
Record refrigerator temperatures and notify the Supervisor of deviations
Use PPE and follow universal precautions and safety procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need

Equivalent of four (4) years of high school education preferred
One (1) year of full time experience preferred
Certified or certified eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred
Availability Monday through Friday, 9:30–2:30
Availability for 1 out of 4 Saturday or Sunday rotation
Availability for 1 holiday annually
Ability to perform venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick procedures
Ability to use computers, automated patient identification systems, barcode scanners, handheld devices, label printers, and order-entry systems
Knowledge of universal precautions, infection control, PPE, and laboratory/hospital safety procedures
