About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the OB/GYN practice and maintain efficient patient flow
  • Greet patients and escort them to exam rooms
  • Room patients and take vital signs and measurements
  • Assist physicians with routine and complex procedures and wound care under MD, NP, or PA supervision
  • Act as a chaperone when needed
  • Administer vaccines and perform ordered treatments, procedures, testing, and screenings
  • Provide patient education and counseling
  • Maintain, set up, and stock patient rooms
  • Order and track practice supplies
  • Schedule appointments, process orders, collect encounter forms, answer telephones, file documents, prepare correspondence and patient charts
  • Determine reasons for visits or calls, prioritize urgent responses, take messages, and notify medical staff
  • Coordinate room rotations
  • Receive test results and call patients with follow-up under physician or nurse practitioner direction
  • Clean instruments and equipment and maintain sterilizer competencies according to infection-control guidelines
  • Communicate critical patient information to nurses and providers
  • Coordinate schedule changes with physicians, advanced practice providers, staff, and patients
  • Verify clinic schedules and assist with weekly MA schedules
  • Participate in daily huddles and staff, workflow, and other meetings
  • Cross-train for front-desk coverage, including patient check-in/out and administrative tasks
  • Manage email communications and use Meditech, Lotus Notes, and i-heal
  • Upload photographs into Meditech and i-heal
  • Precept new employees and mentor, train, and share workflow and policy knowledge
  • Collaborate with the Nursing Supervisor on yearly evaluations, chart reviews, competencies, and personnel-policy compliance
  • Promote a culture of safety and follow patient-identification, hand-hygiene, universal-precaution, PPE, hazardous-material disposal, body-mechanics, and communication-chain requirements
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred
  • Clinical-setting experience preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certificate preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Strong clinical and judgment skills
  • Good organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work successfully as a team player
  • Demonstrated knowledge of varied medical procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and English grammar
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to read, understand, and respond to detailed oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate clearly and both lead and take direction from the Nursing Supervisor
  • Computer proficiency with electronic medical records, telephone communications, email, and required software
  • Proficiency in Meditech, Lotus Notes, and i-heal
  • Ability to work required weekend and holiday schedules
  • Ability to attend daily huddles, 75% of scheduled staff meetings, and other meetings as needed
  • Ability to demonstrate required office and clinical equipment competencies
  • Ability to verify patient identification and follow infection-control and safety policies
