About the role
- Design of small to medium-size structures using applicable design standards, utilizing 3D structural design software
- Review customer requirements to ensure designs are fit for purpose and delivered on schedule
- Present structural calculation reports to clients and third-party design verification partners
- Develop detailed 3D models using industry-standard software packages, including Revit and AutoCAD 3D
- Participate in BIM coordination meetings with clients and colleagues as required
- Produce comprehensive construction drawings to meet internal and client specifications
- Prepare material lists and cutting schedules and closely coordinate with the warehousing team to ensure prompt and accurate delivery of materials
- Respond to internal and external technical inquiries about products or services using existing technical documentation or through problem solving and development of the department’s technical knowledge
- Assess feasibility of future project applications via concept-level design and cost estimation
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and their deliverables
- Develop and possibly automate internal engineering processes to improve speed and accuracy for future projects and staff
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably structural, civil, or mechanical
- Experience working in a BIM environment (Building Information Modeling)
- Proficiency in 3D modeling CAD software, preferably within the Autodesk suite
- Knowledge of structural engineering concepts and experience with 3D structural analysis software preferred
- Strong IT skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, calculations, and datasheets
- Knowledge of U.S. building codes and load guidelines (e.g., ASCE)
- Willingness to travel and stay overnight for project-related work in the U.S./Canada (likely not required in the first year)
- Understanding of and experience in the U.S. construction industry
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
