About the role
- Develop, align, and implement data governance policies (policies, standards, data product guidelines).
- Ensure globally consistent requirements and GDPR/CCPA compliance (Privacy by Design, DPIA, retention, consent).
- Translate strategic objectives into operational governance processes.
- Establish and monitor central data quality KPIs and define SLAs, quality gates, and validation mechanisms.
- Collaborate with domain teams, Legal, InfoSec, and market stakeholders to ensure high data quality and regulatory compliance.
- Build and maintain a sustainable compliance framework.
- Establish a federated governance model (domain ownership, data stewardship, data contracts).
- Coach and enable international domain teams and facilitate global governance boards.
- Build and maintain a data catalog, business glossary, and consistent metadata models.
- Define taxonomies, naming conventions, documentation standards, and lineage.
- Implement and maintain data classification models (Public, Confidential, Restricted) and role/access concepts (RBAC/ABAC).
- Conduct regular reviews and audits.
- Create and deliver trainings, playbooks, and enablement formats.
- Promote a Data-as-a-Product culture and an active global community.
- Support the organization in change management.
- Evolve the governance roadmap, identify process and tool optimizations, and report and monitor relevant governance metrics.
Requirements
- Several years of experience in data governance on global data platforms.
- Ability to translate strategic governance objectives into actionable policies and processes.
- Experience collaborating with international business, data, and tech stakeholders.
- Solid knowledge of data mesh principles (domain ownership, data products, self-service, federated governance).
- Experience establishing decentralized responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and relevant security/compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with data catalog/glossary solutions, data quality frameworks, and lineage tools.
- Understanding of modern cloud/data architectures (ideally Azure).
- Basic knowledge of CI/CD for data, data modeling, and access concepts.
- Ability to facilitate global committees and communities, and to coordinate confidently with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent English skills; German is a plus.
