About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and defend asbestos and toxic tort litigation in jurisdictions throughout the country
- Work as local counsel and national counsel on complex asbestos matters
- Draft pleadings, discovery responses, dispositive motions, briefs, and other substantive legal filings
- Take and defend fact and expert depositions
- Develop case strategy and manage discovery
- Communicate directly with clients, insurers, co-counsel, and opposing counsel
- Attend court conferences, hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations
- Assist Segal McCambridge’s national trial team with trial strategy, preparation, and execution
- Participate in trials and other significant litigation proceedings as appropriate
- Collaborate with experienced attorneys across Segal McCambridge’s national practice
Requirements
What you’ll need- Licensed attorney in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Asbestos defense experience required
- 4+ years of litigation experience preferred, although candidates with strong relevant experience will be considered
- Experience with toxic tort, product liability, premises liability, or other complex litigation is highly desirable
- Demonstrated experience with motion practice, discovery, depositions, and case management
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a national team
- Excellent organization, judgment, and communication skills
- A proactive, client-focused approach and a genuine interest in complex litigation and trial work
- Additional state bar admissions are a plus, particularly in jurisdictions where Segal McCambridge handles significant asbestos litigation
