About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate insurance policies, claims forms, endorsements, carrier instructions, and records to determine coverage
- Investigate claims using official reports, police and hospital records, physical damage inspections, and written estimates
- Interview and correspond with claimants and witnesses
- Estimate repair, replacement, or compensation costs
- Prepare findings reports and negotiate claim settlements
- Issue settlement checks and file regulatory documents
- Handle salvage and subrogation as applicable
- Recommend litigation when settlements cannot be negotiated
- Attend litigation hearings and participate in depositions as necessary
- Revise case reserves to cover probable costs
- Maintain an expected caseload efficiently using technology and automation tools
- Send claims exceeding $15,000 gross loss to leadership for approval
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
- Must obtain IIA-AIC designation within 12 to 18 months in the role
- Appropriate state adjuster license is required
- Three (3) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Prior property and casualty claims experience is a plus but not required
- Empathetic claims handling demeanor
- Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- PC literacy, including Microsoft Office products
- Analytical and interpretive skills
- Negotiating skills
- Ability to create and complete comprehensive, accurate, and constructive written reports
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Computer keyboarding; travel as required
