About the role

  • Lead engineering team activities for one or more Scientific Systems' programs in behavior autonomy, typically across several small and mid-sized programs.
  • Responsible for leading key engineering tasks for critical technology deliverables aligned with SSCI’s technology roadmap.
  • Support maintaining and delivering technology products on behavior autonomy aligned with SSCI’s technology roadmap.
  • Support Scientific Systems' technology roadmap development.
  • Provide technical expertise in behavior autonomy.
  • Lead marketing and proposal efforts in behavior autonomy.
  • Manage deliverables and budget of small and mid-sized programs.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in behavior autonomy and other areas relevant to SSCI.
  • This role may require occasional travel when necessary.
  • Must be able to sit or stand at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require the ability to push/pull/lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active US DOD Security Clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physical Science, Operations Research, Data Science, or equivalent experience and 10+ years of progressive autonomy engineering experience including team leadership in a related industry, a Masters degree and 8+ years of related engineering experience, or a Ph.D. degree and 4+ years of work experience in a related engineering role.
  • Prior experience working in a team leadership role in a related industry.
  • Proven track record of leading proposals and winning DoD/NASA contracts in behavior autonomy.
  • Successfully leading R&D programs in the principal investigator role.
  • Experience in R&D team management, including staff planning, budget estimation and tracking, and business development relating to a broad customer portfolio.
  • Extensive experience in supporting marketing and delivering results in an advanced R&D environment.
  • Successfully capturing new business and leading advanced technology development in advanced R&D.
  • Extensive expertise using modern software development tool chains and processes.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with customer business leads and technical leads.
  • Experience identifying and clarifying customer technical requirements and aligning technical efforts with these requirements.
  • Extensive expertise with software development/R&D of AI for Robotics, Machine Learning, Robot Planning/Optimization Techniques, and/or Autonomous Uncrewed Systems Software.
  • Master of Science degree or Ph.D.
  • Experience in system dynamics, and classical and modern AI-based control algorithms.
  • Extensive publications in behavior autonomy.
  • Experience in developing solutions of challenging technical problems for advanced R&D customers.
  • Experience in Linux-based development environments.
  • Able to work effectively as part of an integration-focused development team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including technical writing skills to lead proposal development.
