  • Serve as a technical resource for underwriters, assistant underwriters, customer service teams (CSTs), and other internal and external customers for complex underwriting, regulatory, workflow, and systems issues to ensure compliance with laws, rules, and program goals.
  • Exercise underwriting authority for selection and pricing as needed.
  • Participate in the development of systems to monitor and measure underwriting performance.
  • Develop and conduct presentations and training to meet employee and business partner needs.
  • Assist in the development of underwriting principles, policies, and procedures to protect SAIF’s financial stability with sound credit and risk underwriting techniques.
  • Recommend selection, coverage, and pricing authority for underwriters.
  • Manage staff workloads through analysis of volume and complexity of work to ensure a balance between team members.
  • Reassign work as necessary.
  • Evaluate internal staff workflows, workloads, and competency by conducting file reviews.
  • Analyze potential findings and impacts and provide regular updates to management and to internal audit.
  • Ensure work methods maximize efficiency and team service levels meet division standards.
  • Apply statute, administrative, or regulatory rule and law to essential functions when applicable.
  • Participate in evaluating and planning division objectives and strategies.
  • Analyze data, prepare reports, and develop recommendations as needed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with agents and customer service teams (CST) to review, identify, and target customers for acquisition, retention, and service.
  • Act as a technical resource to ensure accurate understanding and representation of SAIF’s marketing and underwriting programs and products, plan and accomplish joint tasks, and influence business partners decisions and actions.
  • Build a team culture in which differences are embraced. Regularly expose team members to diverse perspectives and leverage differences to strengthen workgroup performance.
  • Model adaptability and consistently seek to understand other world views, perspectives, and approaches to work.

Requirements

  • Five years increasingly responsible OR workers’ compensation underwriting experience that includes varying levels of complexity from template underwriting to highly complex payment and rating options.
  • Expertise in complex underwriting areas such as coverage, risk analysis, and subject payroll, and responsibility for achieving results through leadership and collaboration with others.
  • Three years of supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in business management, insurance, or a related field.
  • A Certified Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or comparable professional insurance designation is preferred.
