Structural Engineer – Substation

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Apply civil/structural engineering principles and project management skills to carry out project tasks from start to finish while working with the rest of the multidisciplinary team to complete tasks.
- Resolve construction issues that arise, especially involving reinforced concrete, to the clients satisfaction, as needed.
- Perform structural design and analysis for substation facilities including equipment foundations, steel support structures, control buildings, cable trench systems, and bus structures.
- Coordinate with electrical engineering teams to support physical substation layout and equipment integration
- Maintain project budgets, schedule requirements, and quality requirements.
- Follow established company design procedures and industry standards for Power Delivery (substation, BESS, transmission line) while actively contributing to the improvement of those procedures over time.
- Take responsibility as the engineer of record for various civil/structural engineering design projects as relevant experience is gained.
- Review or appropriately delegate the review of project-related design documents, such as fabrication shop drawings, for completion and errors.
- Review various design codes in order to apply the appropriate design standards.
- Perform value engineering design analyses to determine the most cost-competitive design.
- Complete project site-visits to inspect construction quality are possible on occasion.
- Support proposals with technical input and scope development
- Provide occasional site visits, design reviews, and proposal support.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (required); Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive structural engineering experience, preferably in the energy, utilities, or renewable power sectors.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state (or ability to obtain)
- Experience in structural analysis and design software including AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro, Lpile preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of applicable design codes (ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NESC, IBC, etc.)
- Experience with the design and detailing of reinforced concrete and steel structures.
- Experience preparing construction documents, design calculations, and reviewing drawings
- Experience collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams for support project scopes
- Familiarity with compliance processes related to structural design in the U.S.
