About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own and shape Rising's partnerships into a coherent portfolio of high-quality offerings
- Define standards and guidance for contextual adaptation
- Drive evidence-based product R&D with a structured, transparent decision-making process
- Work closely with implementation teams to prioritize impact, scalability, and affordability
- Decide what is ready to scale, remains experimental, or stops
- Evaluate and integrate AI and emerging third-party solutions where they improve quality or affordability and strengthen human capability
- Equip teachers, school leaders, and system leaders with digitally enabled tools
- Oversee the design and adoption of a cost-effective impact measurement framework
- Ensure evidence informs decisions by senior leaders, country teams, and program leads
- Build capabilities to co-design and test third-party solutions with governments
- Build research collaborations on government-led reform
- Find, mentor, and manage an integrated team across academics, digital technology and innovation, data, and impact
- Build connected, collaborative, and complementary systems and ways of working
- Strengthen strategic decision-making through evidence
- Support new opportunities and represent Rising as a thought leader externally
- Report directly to Rising’s CEO
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years in education, edtech or product leadership, including significant senior leadership experience
- Track record of designing, developing and scaling products or programs that measurably improved outcomes, ideally in Africa
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
- Direct experience working with or within government systems
- Experience working with global funders, preferably in Africa
- Strong grounding in learning science
- Ability to make research- and data-informed decisions
- Ability to assess AI and digital tools and judge how they can add value
- Proven success in C-suite or senior leadership roles in Africa
- Experience leading large, multi-disciplinary teams spanning academics, product and data
- Experience hiring, firing, and developing people
- Understanding of how school systems change and ability to design for mechanisms that drive change
- Experience delivering large-scale, complex, multi-year projects and programs on time and budget
- Technology skills and experience using iterative design and testing processes
- Knowledge of AI and technological advances, digital products, data systems, and AI
- Knowledge of global literature and its limitations
- Ability to make decisions about scaling, integration, and discontinuation using evidence
- Ability to communicate decisions clearly to teams and partners
- Ability to engage credibly with ministers, funders, and researchers
- Budget responsibility for an organization or large business unit
- Advanced degree in education, economics, product design, learning sciences, or a related field is an asset (optional)
