About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform forensic assignments within the mechanical engineering field based on an agreed scope of work and budget
- Investigate how and why incidents occurred and determine whether mechanical equipment failure was involved
- Inspect sites, products, and equipment
- Analyze commercial and non-commercial equipment
- Determine the cause and origin of damage
- Perform mechanical engineering analyses and calculations
- Prepare sketches as required
- Conduct analyses of equipment and machinery design and failure, industrial incidents, product failure and liability, and materials
- Prepare oral and written reports documenting analysis, extent of loss, repair scope, and recommended remediation
- Determine and provide expert opinions
- Provide expert testimony in depositions and trials as required
- Manage multiple projects and collaborate with other experts
- Use equations, applications, techniques, tools, and resources to analyze issues
- Initiate, develop, and maintain client relationships
- Conduct technical photography and on-site investigations
- Document site conditions, oversee testing, and review documentation
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.S. Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering degree or equivalent from an accredited program
- F.E. exam completed
- P.E. licensure or ability to complete PE license within one year
- Minimum 5 years of experience, including knowledge of machinery and equipment
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
- Local travel by personal vehicle, including transportation of tools and instruments, required
- High level of analytical skill and attention to detail
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, perform analysis, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to communicate with internal and external clients
- Ability to research and apply scientific and technical principles to specific cases
- Ability to read, understand, and analyze expert reports
- Ability to write clear and coherent technical documents
- Ability to respond efficiently to client inquiries
- Ability to present information effectively to management, clients, public groups, or others
- Ability to understand industry and safety standards
- Ability to take technical photographs, conduct investigations, document on-site conditions, oversee testing, and review documentation
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive to incident sites
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds
- Clear vision and depth perception
- Up to 25% overnight travel
- Occasional odd working hours may be required
