About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Contribute to the design, development and evolution of insurance platforms while remaining closely involved in hands-on delivery.
  • Work with Product Owners, Delivery Managers and senior technical colleagues to translate requirements into robust solutions, resolve complex technical issues and support the gradual evolution of the application architecture.
  • Design, develop and prototype Java / JavaEE solutions across the application stack.
  • Analyse functional requirements and translate them into practical technical designs.
  • Investigate and resolve complex application, integration and performance issues.
  • Contribute to technical choices, integration patterns and the progressive evolution of the platform architecture.
  • Support development teams through code reviews, troubleshooting and the definition of engineering best practices.
  • Work with containerised environments, CI/CD pipelines and observability tooling throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Product, Delivery and IT teams to support secure, reliable and maintainable releases.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in Java / JavaEE software development
  • Strong experience delivering and supporting complex enterprise applications
  • Exposure to technical design, solution definition or mentoring other developers; previous formal architect experience is not required
  • Experience in structured environments or service companies; knowledge of insurance or banking is an advantage
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Java / JavaEE, including development and complex problem determination
  • Practical experience with Maven and modern Java build and dependency-management practices
  • Experience with REST APIs, web services and application integrations
  • Working knowledge of frontend development, particularly Angular
  • Practical experience with Docker, Docker Compose and containerised application environments
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes and Helm charts
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, ideally Jenkins and/or GitLab CI
  • Understanding of observability systems and how applications feed them, including OpenTelemetry or comparable standards
  • Good knowledge of SQL databases and the ability to investigate query or application performance issues
  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Exposure to application servers, middleware, messaging systems or caching technologies is welcome
  • Knowledge of public cloud platforms, Kafka, NoSQL databases or security-by-design principles is useful but not essential
  • A broad technical curiosity and willingness to learn new tools and technologies quickly
  • Italian language is required for day-to-day collaboration. Good professional English is required.
