About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and analyze overhead and underground transmission lines (typically 69kV–345kV+)
  • Perform line routing, structure spotting, and loading calculations
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings, equipment specifications, technical bid summaries, and technical reports
  • Conduct electrical, structural, and thermal analyses using industry software tools
  • Coordinate with substation, distribution, protection, and construction teams
  • Support permitting, environmental, and right-of-way considerations
  • Provide construction support, including responding to RFIs and field issues
  • Ensure compliance with NESC, IEEE, NERC, and utility standards
  • Assist with cost estimates, schedules, and project documentation
  • Participate in internal design reviews and quality assurance processes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required or ability to obtain
  • 2–7+ years of transmission line engineering experience (level dependent)
  • Working knowledge of transmission design standards and codes
  • Proficiency with industry software (e.g., PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, AutoCAD, GIS tools)
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
