About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage the Legal team’s support of Reddit’s global privacy compliance program
- Provide advice and counsel on US, EU, and other applicable legal frameworks
- Implement and maintain external and internal privacy- and legal-related policies and processes
- Advise product and engineering teams on designing and implementing privacy controls
- Manage government and regulator discussions, negotiations, and disclosures on privacy and data protection compliance readiness
- Serve as the lead legal subject matter expert for privacy and data protection
- Ensure consistency in privacy counseling across the legal team
- Partner with technical teams to investigate potential privacy and security issues and ensure legal compliance
- Advocate internally and externally for Reddit’s privacy-focused approach
Requirements
What you’ll need- Law degree (JD, LLB, LLM, etc.)
- Locally licensed in your jurisdiction
- 12+ years of legal experience at a top law firm or in house
- 5+ years of in-house privacy and/or product counseling experience
- Demonstrated experience implementing and managing a successful privacy compliance program in a fast paced, product-forward environment
- Experience with global privacy laws and industry guidelines, especially those relevant for tech platforms
- Strong legal drafting and writing skills
- Experience responding to and partnering with regulators, particularly in Europe
- Experience managing high impact and strong performing legal team members
- Ability to collaborate effectively across time zones
- Ability to build strong relationships with engineers, product managers, legal colleagues, and internal stakeholders
- Passion for and active use of Reddit as a platform
