About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Help define and execute Quarzo Life's technology strategy, working directly with the founder/CPTO.
Oversee the evolution of the platform architecture, with a particular focus on scalability, maintainability, security, and performance.
Identify areas of technical debt, propose pragmatic trade-offs, and prioritize structural engineering initiatives.
Scale up the engineering team by contributing to hiring, onboarding, and progressively structuring roles.
Coordinate the development team day-to-day, ensuring clarity of priorities, smooth execution, and high-quality delivery.
Actively contribute to product engineering, discovery, and functional design.
Accelerate product delivery while maintaining a high level of technical excellence.
Ensure production reliability: monitoring, observability, incident management, performance, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Significant engineering leadership experience, ideally in a startup, scale-up, or high-growth product environment.
Experience with complex, scalable, and maintainable platforms closely tied to production concerns.
Experience coordinating technical teams, ideally including both in-house developers and external contractors.
Proven ability to take ownership of an existing codebase, improve it, and evolve it without starting from scratch.
Experience making trade-offs between speed of execution, quality, security, and scalability.
Strong command of software architecture and design principles for building robust, maintainable systems.
Solid development experience in TypeScript, preferably on React and Node.js stacks.
Good grasp of software craftsmanship practices: clean code, automated testing, code review, simplicity, and maintainability.
Familiarity with DDD and TDD approaches.
Good understanding of QA, CI/CD, monitoring, observability, and production reliability concerns.
Solid awareness of infrastructure and application security, without needing to be an expert DevOps or CISO.
Strong product engineering mindset: ability to understand business needs, challenge requirements, and contribute to functional design.
Good understanding of AI/LLM use cases and ability to identify relevant applications for internal workflows and product development.
