About the role

  • Collaborate with Product Owners and development teams to plan product roadmaps and deliver resilient software systems.
  • Lead and guide the design of complex, multi-tier and distributed systems and ensure early delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Set standards, practices and expectations for software delivery across programming, quality, security, reliability, maintainability and performance.
  • Champion and drive internal adoption of Propellerhead's technical strategy and contribute actively to strategy formulation.
  • Stay hands-on: prototype new ideas, remain close to code, and support evolution of codebase from C# to Rust.
  • Participate in designing cloud-based solutions (Azure/AWS), building CI/CD pipelines and instrumenting systems for operations.
  • Work with streaming/messaging platforms (e.g., Kafka, NATS) as required and integrate existing services with custom development.
  • Communicate architecture and technical decisions effectively to internal and customer stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience with the development of multi-tier and distributed applications (8+ years).
  • Previous experience with React user interfaces and services written in C# (essential).
  • Confidence working with a variety of programming languages including Typescript, Java and Rust.
  • Exceptional communication skills to bridge technical solutions with business needs and present concepts to stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience designing solutions on cloud platforms such as Azure (preferred) or AWS, including building CI/CD pipelines and instrumenting for operations.
  • Experience with streaming and messaging platforms such as Kafka or NATS (highly desirable).
  • Proven experience leading the design of complex software applications, preferably enterprise-level.
  • Demonstrable interest or experience in digital identity, verifiable credentials, open banking, AI agent authorization, edge or device-based software deployment.
  • Ability to prototype new ideas quickly and judge their value; strong hands-on engineering background and architectural insight.
  • Willingness to work predominantly in New Zealand timezone or agree minimal crossover hours; openness to remote or relocation to Auckland (specify plans in application).
