About the role

  • Supports the Prisma Health Trauma Program and organizational requirements for verification/designation as a Trauma Center.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the Trauma Registry Data including abstraction, entry, and coding.
  • Applies comprehensive knowledge to identify and collect complex data on trauma patients.
  • Performs ICD-10 coding and AIS coding of all diagnoses and procedures.
  • Utilizes critical thinking, organization, and time management skills to achieve high productivity and accuracy.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in HIM or related healthcare field preferred.
  • One (1) year of trauma registry, coding, HIM or relevant healthcare related experience.
  • Requires completion of AAAM course (AIS coding) and Trauma Registry Course within one (1) year of hire.
  • Requires ICD-10 Coding course within one (1) year of hire.
  • One of the following certifications is preferred: CSTR (Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries), CAISS (Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist), AHIMA or AAPC coding certification, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS preferred.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and medical terminology as well as disease processes.
