About the role
- Performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physician’s order and departmental policy.
- Works independently in all acute and critical care settings.
- Consults with physicians and makes recommendations on treatment as appropriate.
- Initiates, monitors and manages patients requiring various types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
- Obtains blood gasses from all sites, analyzes and reports results.
- Documents and charges for all respiratory care procedures and tasks.
- Provides patient and family education as appropriate.
- Communicates with all members of the healthcare team, including students and nurse shadows.
Requirements
- Associate degree.
- Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program by an accredited school.
- Respiratory Care Practitioner license from the state in which work is performed.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
- BLS NRP, PALS, ACLS, NPS certifications must be obtained and maintained as required by work unit.
