About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work on the design, development, and iteration of core gameplay systems, particularly for third-person shooters.
- Define and refine player abilities, combat loops, cover systems, enemy behaviors, and progression features.
- Work closely with engineers to prototype, validate, and optimize gameplay mechanics and ensure design intent is properly realized.
- Oversee the creation of compelling levels and encounters that support gameplay goals and narrative direction.
- Guide the placement of cover, interactive elements, and combat scenarios that deliver excellent pacing and player flow.
- Collaborate with environment artists to ensure spaces are visually immersive and mechanically sound.
- Collaborate with Narrative Designers in fleshing out the game’s lore.
- Partner with animation and art teams to integrate character, weapon, and environmental animations into cohesive gameplay experiences.
- Provide feedback on visual presentation and animation quality to maintain clarity, responsiveness, and player satisfaction.
- Ensure all design elements reinforce the tone, story, and emotional rhythm of the game.
- Help mentor junior and mid-level designers, providing clear feedback, direction, and professional growth support.
- Contribute to high-level creative discussions, helping shape the game’s vision, pillars, and roadmap.
- Communicate design goals, deliverables, and constraints across departments to align teams around shared objectives.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Extensive experience designing for action or third-person shooter titles.
- Proven experience in Game Development, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Passion for video games, especially third-person shooters.
- Familiarity with game development tools and software (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, etc.).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong systems design background, with a deep understanding of player psychology and game feel.
- Proven ability to take ownership of complex systems from concept through implementation.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
