About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide comprehensive, dedicated paralegal support to one Family Law attorney throughout all phases of family law matters
  • Manage and coordinate the Family Law staff team by establishing priorities, delegating work, monitoring assignments, and ensuring deadlines and service expectations are met
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, support, and accountability to Family Law staff
  • Support divorce, custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, contempt actions, domestic violence, and post-judgment matters
  • Draft, review, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, financial affidavits, settlement agreements, correspondence, and other legal documents
  • Prepare and electronically file pleadings while ensuring compliance with court rules, procedures, and deadlines
  • Manage attorney calendars, court dates, discovery deadlines, mediation schedules, and case timelines
  • Serve as a primary client contact and provide regular case updates
  • Review, organize, and summarize financial records, tax returns, bank statements, business records, and other relevant documents
  • Coordinate discovery, document production, subpoenas, depositions, and expert witnesses
  • Prepare hearing notebooks, trial binders, exhibits, witness files, and mediation materials
  • Maintain organized electronic case files and accurate, timely documentation
  • Monitor case progress and proactively identify outstanding tasks
  • Collaborate with attorneys, opposing counsel, court personnel, mediators, experts, clients, and internal staff
  • Accurately record billable time and assist with case management and administrative responsibilities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 3 years of substantive family law paralegal experience
  • No contract or temporary work experience
  • Extensive hands-on experience handling family law matters from inception through resolution
  • Prior experience leading, managing, mentoring, supervising, or coordinating paralegals or legal support staff is highly desirable
  • Strong and stable employment history highly preferred
  • Exceptional drafting, proofreading, organizational, and case management skills
  • Strong knowledge of discovery procedures, court filings, and litigation support
  • Ability to manage multiple active cases and competing priorities while overseeing and supporting others
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, accountability, and client service
  • Ability to work independently and remain productive and responsive in a fully remote environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Washington, DC approximately once per quarter
  • Availability Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM Eastern Time
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
