About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document professional nursing care for patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED)
Interrogate, evaluate, and program implanted cardiac devices during in-person patient encounters
Use programmers for Medtronic, Abbott, Boston Scientific, and Biotronik devices
Recognize device or lead malfunction and End of Service indicators
Notify cardiologists and assist with scheduling follow-up or replacement
Complete documentation for CIED assessment, arrhythmia management, and anticoagulation status
Review and process CIED remote transmissions and trans-telephonic monitoring alerts and routine transmissions
Follow manufacturer guidelines for device advisories and recalls
Participate in continuing education related to CIED management, electrical heart disease, and cardiac disease processes
Provide cross-coverage within the CIED department at Rust Medical and Santa Fe Medical Center
Serve as an expert resource for device and arrhythmia management to clinical, research, radiology, and primary care teams
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need

Associates of Science in Nursing required
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Current licensure in New Mexico as a registered nurse (RN-NM)
1-2 years’ experience in critical care, interventional cardiology/electrophysiology lab or cardiac step-down unit
Strong cardiology background preferred
BLS certification required
ACLS certification required
Completion of a professional CIED program through Arrhythmia Technologies Institute (ATI), PrepMD or similar program preferred
CIED management experience preferred
International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) certification desirable
