About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document professional nursing care for patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED)
  • Interrogate, evaluate, and program implanted cardiac devices during in-person patient encounters
  • Use programmers for Medtronic, Abbott, Boston Scientific, and Biotronik devices
  • Recognize device or lead malfunction and End of Service indicators
  • Notify cardiologists and assist with scheduling follow-up or replacement
  • Complete documentation for CIED assessment, arrhythmia management, and anticoagulation status
  • Review and process CIED remote transmissions and trans-telephonic monitoring alerts and routine transmissions
  • Follow manufacturer guidelines for device advisories and recalls
  • Participate in continuing education related to CIED management, electrical heart disease, and cardiac disease processes
  • Provide cross-coverage within the CIED department at Rust Medical and Santa Fe Medical Center
  • Serve as an expert resource for device and arrhythmia management to clinical, research, radiology, and primary care teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associates of Science in Nursing required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Current licensure in New Mexico as a registered nurse (RN-NM)
  • 1-2 years’ experience in critical care, interventional cardiology/electrophysiology lab or cardiac step-down unit
  • Strong cardiology background preferred
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification required
  • Completion of a professional CIED program through Arrhythmia Technologies Institute (ATI), PrepMD or similar program preferred
  • CIED management experience preferred
  • International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) certification desirable
