About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform laboratory tests and other laboratory work using conventional and computerized machines and work aids
- Perform laboratory work and tests according to prescribed standards
- Determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition
- Set up, adjust, and operate laboratory equipment and instruments
- Efficiently and accurately perform product testing and sample setting
- Perform microbiological and chemical testing of finished products, raw materials, and associated items
- Participate in product weight control and antibiotic testing
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment
- Maintain laboratory sanitation
- Communicate with other departments and employees about problems or concerns that may restrict production
- Obtain and maintain State certification for antibiotic testing within company guidelines
- Adhere to food safety and quality system requirements, including regulatory, customer, and SQF requirements
- Complete paperwork and document required information according to SOPs
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices and required work-safe practices
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area and wear required PPE
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's degree and/or experience required
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or 2–3 years of related microbiology laboratory experience in lieu of degree
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Experience within the food and beverage industry preferred
- Ability to flavor milk-based, sugar-based, and caffeine-based products
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and bend for virtually the entire shift
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally, including overhead
- Ability to work in a wet environment and handle chemical exposure
- May be exposed to eggs, strawberries, milk products, and nuts
- Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Must pass all pre-employment screens, including drug, background, and criminal checks
- Night shift availability: 9:00 p.m.–5:30 a.m.; some weekends
