About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the design, review, and management of electrical systems and subsystems with a strong emphasis on safety, EMC, and compliance.
- Architect power, control, and communication systems for robotic platforms and their operating environments.
- Develop electrical requirements, specifications, and documentation that drive system-level design.
- Deliver cost-effective, manufacturable electrical solutions and support release to production and field deployment.
- Work with interdisciplinary teams to execute product designs from concept through production, including prototyping, validation, testing, and certification.
- Lead and support a technical team across multiple parallel projects, ensuring alignment and engineering rigor.
- Coordinate electrical engineering activities across projects and ensure effective collaboration with mechanical, software, and systems engineering.
- Write and maintain functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures.
- Architect, design, and debug complex embedded systems, including analog/digital circuits, power electronics, and system-level interfaces.
- Create and maintain electrical drawings, schematics, PCB layouts, and related documentation. Prepare and conduct technical design reviews.
- Support product releases to manufacturing, including troubleshooting, build support, and sustaining engineering.
- Execute tasks on tight schedules while maintaining high-quality and reliability standards.
- Establish and improve development processes aligned with functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508).
Requirements
What you’ll need- An Electrical Engineer with 8+ years of experience in robotics, automation, or related electromechanical systems.
- Hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (M.S. preferred).
- Experienced in robotic system integration and industrial automation.
- Strong background in electrical safety, control systems, and system-level design.
- Knowledgeable in AC/DC power distribution, protection systems, and 3-phase industrial power (U.S. and EU standards).
- Skilled in cable harness design, interconnect solutions, and system wiring.
- Experienced with power electronics, motors, motor control, and sensors (Hall effect, encoders, load cells).
- Proficient in PCB design, schematic layout, and assembly; experienced with Altium or equivalent tools.
- Familiar with CAD tools such as OnShape (a plus).
- Knowledgeable about autonomous mobile robots and industrial robot safety standards.
- A strong communicator who can lead, influence, and coordinate across engineering disciplines.
- Able to work from our Charlestown, MA office at least 4 days per week.
