About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, mentor and grow a team of transmission line engineers and designers
- Coordinate resources and manage team workload across concurrent projects
- Coordinate with discipline and regional leads to ensure on-time, on-budget and quality delivery
- Develop and train junior and intermediate engineers, including development plans, technical coaching and feedback
- Support recruitment and onboarding
- Lead projects and prepare technical responses to proposals and RFPs, including resource, execution, cost and budget plans
- Lead medium- to high-voltage overhead and underground transmission project design and engineering from conceptual engineering through construction completion
- Lead capital project development, including feasibility studies, scope definitions, capital cost estimates, and preliminary and detailed engineering designs
- Interpret codes, standards and client requirements to create optimized design criteria documents
- Oversee and produce PLS-CADD, TOWER and POLE models
- Develop scopes of work, material specifications and construction specifications
- Ensure peer reviews, checking and sealing processes, and contribute to internal engineering standards, templates and work practices
- Review and seal final design prints
- Manage engineering deliverable costs and schedules, monitor team utilization, and report progress, risks and forecasts to senior management
- Act as technical point of contact for clients and identify further opportunities
- Participate in technical meetings with disciplines, contractors and customers
- Perform site investigations and field reviews when required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering
- Currently Licensed as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or eligible for immediate registration with PEO, with a proven record of stamping and sealing designs
- Minimum 10 years of relevant transmission line engineering experience; ideally a majority of that experience within Canada
- Demonstrated experience leading, supervising or mentoring an engineering team, including workload planning and resource coordination
- Knowledge of codes and relevant industry standards including CSA, CEC, IEEE, IEC, CIGRE, ANSI and NEMA
- Proficient in the use of the PLS software suite
- Experience preparing proposals and estimates, and managing project budgets and schedules
- Experience working on industrial and/or utilities projects
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as attention to detail are essential
- Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
- Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites and other PHASOR offices
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
