About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a legal resource for ERISA and retirement plan administration matters, including qualified plan operational compliance, fiduciary issues, plan qualification rules, plan document interpretation, participant disclosures, and plan sponsor obligations.
  • Interpret and apply guidance from the Department of Labor, Internal Revenue Service, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, and other regulators affecting retirement plans.
  • Identify legal, fiduciary, operational, data, contractual, and reputational risks early and recommend practical mitigation.
  • Explains complex legal issues clearly, concisely, and in a way business teams can act on.
  • Build strong working relationships with business, product, operations, compliance, technology, and client-facing teams.
  • Support incident response and remediation efforts involving participant data, system access, recordkeeping issues, or other operational events impacting data.
  • Serve as a legal partner to product, technology, operations, sales, and business leaders on the design, development, and enhancement of retirement products, services, platform features, digital workflows, and service models.
  • Review participant-facing, plan sponsor-facing, advisor-facing, and client-facing materials, including disclosures, website content, forms, notices, templates, training materials, implementation materials, and sales or service collateral.
  • Draft and negotiate clear agreements with clients, vendors, or strategic partners that align services, responsibilities, risk allocation, and business objectives.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • J.D. required from an accredited law school
  • At least five years of legal experience involving retirement plans, fiduciary matters, or related financial services work other than solely through ERISA litigation experience
  • Working knowledge of ERISA and Internal Revenue Code provisions applicable to retirement plans
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Able to exercise independent judgement and act on it
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Logical and efficient, with keen attention to detail
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced, team environment with shifting priorities
