About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Deliver complete solutions across all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, delivery, and operations
Advise immediate management on project-level issues
Guide junior engineers
Make technical decisions with little day-to-day supervision
Lead engineering efforts and team-level processes
Provide technical advice to senior leaders on systems, solutions, challenges, and strategy
Promote technical standards, engineering best practices, and quality across Venmo and PayPal
Determine technical tasks for other engineers
Own design, implementation, and operational excellence of software components
Improve existing structures and processes
Contribute to the technical engineering roadmap through implementation assessments and recommendations
Reconcile competing priorities and identify optimal solutions
Anticipate implementation risks and develop general solutions
Participate in code and design reviews and oversee project delivery
Resolve technical inquiries
Provide technical leadership with limited management guidance
Tailor communication for technical and non-technical stakeholders across product, support, finance operations, compliance, and legal

Requirements

What you’ll need

3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR any equivalent combination of education and experience
8+ years' experience in Mobile Development
Experience developing and maintaining consumer-facing mobile applications at scale
Strong Kotlin skills and knowledge of multi-threaded, asynchronous code
Deep understanding of consuming GraphQL and REST APIs from mobile applications
Strong understanding of testing best practices
Familiarity with at least one testing framework for Mobile Development
Skilled at writing unit and automation tests
Strong knowledge of common design patterns, algorithms, and object-oriented programming
Expertise in MVC and MVVM design patterns
Ability to understand and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences
Passion for mentoring and developing software engineers
