About the role
- Acts as a project or system leader, coordinating activities of other engineers and determining technical tasks
- Makes technical decisions, collaborates with management to set/improve engineering standards, and represents PayPal externally
- Lead major initiatives end-to-end: define design, identify stakeholders, navigate risks, coordinate work, implement solutions, and deliver projects
- Hands-on contributor who mentors senior and junior engineers and provides guidance and thought leadership
- Manage Venmo's cloud infrastructure: operations, automation, security, compliance, and release engineering
- Oversee CI/CD infrastructure, implement secure pipelines, self-service secret management, development environments, and microservices scaffolding/testing frameworks
- Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures
- Develop and improve tools and automation to manage infrastructure and application configuration as code, and enhance quality, reliability, and stability
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 10+ years' experience in software development or a related field (preferred)
- 5+ years' experience operating distributed applications 24x7x365 as part of a Cloud Engineering, DevOps, and/or SRE team
- 2+ years technical leadership experience
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing and supporting infrastructure (AWS experience preferred)
- Deep hands-on experience with IaaS and PaaS solutions from AWS (or similar cloud provider)
- Hands-on programming and scripting: Python, Java, Bash, Go
- Hands-on experience with containers & container orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, EKS
- Experience with Terraform, GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, Datadog
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences
- Bachelor's and/or Master's in computer science or related field (preferred)
