Serve as the technical expert for regulatory inquiries and food safety compliance across the business
Stay ahead of federal and state regulatory changes (FDA, USDA, CDFA, etc.) and translate them into actionable guidance for internal teams
Lead regulatory impact assessments, identifying risks and opportunities tied to innovation and growth
Advise on regulatory requirements during product development, reformulations, and market expansions
Represent Vital Farms in industry groups, regulatory meetings, and discussions with certifying bodies
Deliver internal training and guidance on evolving regulations, compliance best practices, and certification requirements
Own the packaging label review process—including claims, nutrition facts, ingredient statements, allergens, and third-party certifications
Ensure all product claims are substantiated, compliant, and aligned with brand standards
Partner with internal teams to develop labeling and compliance strategies that support innovation and transparency
Oversee compliance for third-party certifications and ensure accurate documentation, renewals, and ongoing program support
Support FSMA initiatives and ensure FSVP compliance for imported products and ingredients
Collaborate with FSQA and Procurement teams to uphold high standards for co-manufacturers and suppliers
Manage master product specifications, including creation, updates, and version control across all product lines
Lead FSQA documentation processes related to UPC, GS1, and labeling systems
Drive change management for regulatory and FSQA updates across teams and partners
Maintain document control systems to ensure accessibility, accuracy, and audit readiness
Support state permitting and licensing needs across all operational markets
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or a related field
Advanced certifications or training in regulatory compliance preferred
5+ years of hands-on experience in regulatory affairs, technical services, or food compliance within a food manufacturing environment
Deep knowledge of food regulations including FDA, USDA, CDFA, FSMA, FSVP, and relevant state requirements; experience with shell egg regulations and dairy a plus
Ability to travel up to 30% to suppliers, co-manufacturers, industry events, internal meetings and events
Strong grasp of labeling compliance including nutrition facts panels, ingredient statements, allergen declarations, and product claims
Expertise in managing third-party certifications such as Certified Humane and Organic
Experience with document control systems, specification databases, and change management
Familiarity with GS1 Global Data Synchronization and managing supplier documentation requirements
Attention to detail and passion for regulatory accuracy and food integrity
Ability to translate complex regulations into clear, actionable guidance
Change leadership and ability to guide teams through updates and process improvements
Teamwork orientation and strong cross-functional collaboration skills
Comfortable with honest, direct communication and constructive feedback
