About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work closely with the HIM team across the state to accomplish departmental objectives effectively and efficiently
- Provide excellent patient experience on the phones
- Understand HIPAA and release records as requested
- Ensure compliance and completion of pending, unsigned, and incomplete documentation
- Monitor, receive, send, and request operative notes with outside hospital systems
- Address messages from staff, providers, patients, requestors, and vendors
- Complete chart merging, chart corrections, and research chart issues
- Collaborate with revenue cycle management on billing and patient documents related to release-of-information requests, insurance audits, and patient requests
- Collaborate with the copy service on release of information, patient complaints, status checks, and directing requestors
- Work daily in EPIC work queues to complete pending messages and answer patient and staff messages
- Optimize workflows and develop efficient solutions
- Support the HIM department with outstanding tasks
- Build relationships with providers, staff, and practice managers to ensure timely completion of documentation and encounters
- Perform chart analysis, record review, chart audits, data abstraction, chart corrections, and multitasking
- Review documents and scan them into the correct patient's chart
- Monitor and process imaging requests, radiology requests, incoming imaging, and requests to outside facilities
- Monitor and process medical records work queues, fax queues, MyChart requests, and patient queues
- Transcribe or compose patient letters at the request of providers and clinical team members
- Assist providers with medical records, correspondence, requests, and release of information
- Abide by federal laws, rules, and regulations concerning PHI, HIPAA, release of information, confidentiality, and patient-record protection
- Cross-train and assist others across the department
- Complete other assigned tasks
Requirements

- Detail-oriented with excellent follow-through
- Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities effectively
- Willingness to cross-train and work across the department
- Knowledge of HIPAA, PHI, confidentiality, release of information, and patient-record protection
