About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review M&E designs for compliance with the building regulations, report design non-compliances and risks, workshop with design team to develop most suitable design solution for client requirements
  • Review mechanical and electrical building services installations on site for compliance with Building Regulations and project specifications.
  • Undertake benchmark inspections relating to M&E items.
  • Coordinate inspections and compliance activities throughout all project stages.
  • Carry out site inspections and monitor construction quality, workmanship, and regulatory compliance throughout the project.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and specialist consultants to resolve technical and compliance issues.
  • Review drawings, specifications, ancillary certificates, and project documentation.
  • Review technical submittals where required on Projects.
  • Review and collate quality documentation, and handover records, witness Testing and Commissioning of M&E systems to verify operation and cause and effect.
  • Maintain accurate project records, reports, and quality tracking systems.
  • Support the preparation and management of inspection plans and certification records.
  • Monitor project progress and maintain accurate compliance documentation throughout project delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance relating to building services systems, regulations, and standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships while delivering high-quality consultancy services.
  • Chair, participate and contribute in project meetings, with both internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering
  • Strong background in mechanical and electrical building services design, construction, or consultancy
  • Significant on-site experience with strong understanding of construction and installation processes
  • Excellent technical knowledge of Building Regulations, BCAR requirements, and construction compliance procedures
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and construction stakeholders
  • Confident in reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and construction documentation
  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain high standards of quality and compliance
  • Proactive approach with strong attention to detail and commitment to professional standards
  • Chartered Engineer status or progression toward chartership (desirable)
  • Experience carrying out the Assigned Certifier role on Project including inspections and certification activities under BCAR (desirable)
  • Experience carrying out technical advisory or quality assurance/quality control services on projects (desirable)
  • Experience across commercial, residential, healthcare, or industrial sectors (desirable)
  • Familiarity with commissioning, testing, and handover processes for building services systems (desirable)
  • Knowledge of BIM coordination and digital project delivery tools (desirable)
  • Leadership or mentoring experience within project or compliance teams (desirable)
