About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct and support wildlife field activities including nest sweeps, wildlife sweeps, amphibian capture and relocation, species-at-risk surveys, habitat assessments, breeding bird surveys, and wildlife monitoring equipment deployment and servicing
- Assist with daily field planning and execution according to project requirements and timelines
- Support or lead small field crews in accordance with standard operating procedures
- Prepare safety plans, maps, access routes, and equipment lists; confirm permits and access approvals
- Coordinate travel, accommodations, equipment readiness, and other field logistics
- Collect accurate digital data, photo documentation, and metadata; complete QA/QC and initial interpretation
- Provide timely updates to team members, project managers, clients, and regulators
- Contribute to technical reports by writing sections, preparing figures, and compiling appendices
- Participate in hazard assessments, tailgate meetings, and incident reporting
- Exercise stop work authority when required and contribute to a strong safety culture
- Collaborate with vegetation, wetlands, aquatics, and environmental construction support teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree(s) in Biology, Ecology, or Environmental Science
- 4–7+ years of relevant wildlife experience
- Proven experience with breeding bird surveys, nest sweeps, and wildlife sweeps
- Strong identification skills for key wildlife features for birds and other wildlife
- Experience with sharp-tailed grouse, owls, and amphibian capture and relocation is an asset
- Proficiency with GPS/GIS-enabled data collection and digital field forms
- Strong safety mindset
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
- Comfortable operating ATVs/UTVs and light trucks
- Helicopter experience is an asset
- Eligible for or registered as P.Biol. (ASPB) is an asset
- Ability to lift 50 pounds several times a day
- Ability to perform overhead lifting of over 20 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in hot and cold environments and extreme weather conditions
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts in remote conditions
- Willingness to travel to project sites, including remote locations
- Ability to work variable schedules that do not follow a fixed rotation
- Ability to work required overtime
