About the role

  • Manage and mentor a small team of actuaries and analysts
  • Be accountable for producing a wide range of analyses and reporting, both regularly and ad-hoc, including (but not limited to): pricing, renewal underwriting, reserving and trend studies, forecasting, and plan-performance reporting
  • Drive innovation in actuarial models, reporting and dashboards.
  • Backtest assumptions, evaluate new vendors, and improve approaches to underwriting and loss-ratio management.
  • Present regular reviews of health-plan performance to clients
  • Mentor and develop the skills of team actuaries
  • Build relationships with client and vendor partners and serve as a trusted advisor to clients on actuarial matters
  • Work closely with our carrier partners and engineering team to establish and update data pipelines, maintain data quality, and ensure accurate and timely data
  • Contribute to leadership-committee discussions

Requirements

  • 8+ years of health actuarial experience required
  • Credentialed actuary (ASA or FSA) required
  • Personnel-management experience preferred
  • Experience working with PEO master health plans or similar, underwritten, group insurance preferred
  • Knowledge of predictive modelling and risk assessment as it applies to health-insurance underwriting required
  • Experience developing and managing data pipelines preferred
  • Strong programming skills in SQL
  • Experience with business-intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau, Microstrategy, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail - eagerness to research and solve problems
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to explain complex actuarial concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Ability to work well as a self-starter, both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work well in a remote work environment.
