About the role
- Inspect, monitor, and evaluate roadway and highway construction projects throughout the State of Georgia to ensure compliance with GDOT standards, project plans, specifications, and safety regulations
- Perform field inspections of highway, roadway, bridge, and transportation infrastructure projects
- Ensure construction activities comply with GDOT specifications, plans, contracts, and standards
- Review construction methods, materials, and workmanship for quality and compliance
- Verify quantities, measurements, and pay items for progress reporting and payment approval
- Identify deficiencies, non-conformance issues, and safety concerns; recommend corrective actions
- Review and approve shop drawings, material submittals, and test results as required
- Monitor contractor adherence to traffic control plans, erosion control measures, and safety regulations
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, daily logs, photographs, and documentation
- Coordinate with project engineers, GDOT representatives, contractors, and local agencies
- Participate in project meetings, site walks, and progress reviews
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental and safety requirements
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to junior inspectors or field staff, as assigned
Requirements
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Georgia (required)
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in highway, roadway, or transportation construction inspection and/or engineering
- Demonstrated knowledge of GDOT standards, specifications, and construction practices
- Experience with roadway materials, including asphalt, concrete, earthwork, drainage, and traffic control
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and contracts
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with inspection documentation, reporting tools, and basic engineering software
- Valid Georgia drivers license and ability to travel to project sites statewide.
